Where Claude fits

Claude is Anthropic's general-purpose assistant, with writing, analysis, and coding among the uses described on its official product page. A useful reason to shortlist it is a workflow built around existing material: a brief to revise, a document to interrogate, or code to explain. A practical evaluation

Choose a document you know well and remove private information. Ask for a summary with references to the relevant sections, then ask which questions the document cannot answer. Check whether the response distinguishes supplied evidence from an inference. A polished answer that introduces facts absent from your document creates extra checking work.

For drafting, supply an audience, length, prohibited claims, and a sample of your own writing. Compare the amount of editing needed with your usual process. Count corrections and time spent checking, rather than treating a longer answer as a better result.

Limits and buying decisions

Do not assume that access to the chat product includes every developer product or API charge. Check the exact plan and any separate service you need. Also verify upload limits, data handling, and your organization's rules before sharing a work document. Answers still need factual review; fluent writing does not establish accuracy.

An individual doing occasional drafting should test a small representative task before committing to an ongoing subscription. A team should additionally evaluate permissions, shared workflows, billing, and how work can be exported when a subscription ends.

What to compare

Compare Perplexity when finding and following web sources is the main job. Compare an editor-focused workflow such as Cursor when most of the work involves changing a repository. These are different workflow choices, not a ranking of model quality.

Evaluation question: Can you verify the answer more quickly than you could produce the result yourself? Keep the same input and acceptance criteria across candidates.
