Distinguish indexing from answering

Elephas describes a knowledge assistant for Mac and iOS, with local indexing, an offline mode, and optional cloud processing. Its site places Windows access on a waitlist. These are provider descriptions, not an independent privacy audit. Confirm the current platform and mode in the official product information.

Test retrieval on a small library

Use a few non-sensitive documents with similar titles but different dates. Ask a question whose answer changed between versions. Check whether the response identifies the right document and passage rather than blending an obsolete policy with the current one.

Add a question that the documents cannot answer. A useful assistant should make that limit clear instead of manufacturing a source. Keep the original files and a trusted answer sheet so another person can reproduce the check.

Verify the privacy boundary yourself

If offline operation is essential, test the approved workflow without network access and document which features remain available. If using a cloud model, review what is transmitted and how any redaction is handled; local indexing alone does not describe the entire data path. Compare hardware requirements, storage, and maintenance with a simpler indexed folder search. This guide does not certify the provider's confidentiality or regulatory-compliance claims.
